The jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born the 20th of February 1937 in Ohio, Chillicothe. She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy Wilson was the youngest born child at the age of 6. Nancy was heavily influenced by her father's music taste as well as the music played at her family home. At the age of four, Nancy knew that she wanted to be a musician. She began to develop her talent by singing in church choirs. After high school when she started appearing often in Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when she was crowned the winner of the TV talent show. Around the same time she started working in nightclubs. Nancy graduated high school at 17 and attended Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a entire year. Then she dropped out to pursue a job as professional musician. Her first record was recorded in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band toured with her from 1956-1958. While in the group Nancy released her first record on Dot Records. Cannonball Adderley told her that she needed to relocate in New York to further her career, and she moved into The Big Town at the end of 1959. In just a few months, she was offered a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx which was where her agent was introduced to her and signed her. Agent Adderley signed her to Capitol in 1960. Her debut was that year. Guess who I saw today. Her records were successful and Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. At first, she focused on rhythm and blues, under Adderley's influence, she began to move away from R&B and began to embrace music from jazz and torch. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley as well as their 1962 partnership made her a star. Her breakthrough smash Tell Me the Truth by 1963. This performance brought her to the stage at the New York Coconut Grove in 1963. It was the most crowded in America's nightclub.
