Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens, better called Queen Latifah in America, is a rapper and actress. The work of Queen Latifah on television, film as well as music has earned numerous prizes. They include a Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award Six additional Grammy Nominations An Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah's parents are Lancelot and Rita Owens. They were both members of the police force. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher, who was a teacher at Irvington High School. Their divorce occurred in the year Latifah was ten. Latifah grew up in the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Latifah is her name for stage when she turned eight. It means delicate in Arabic. Latifah has always been tall and tall. Standing 5'10", she was the center forward on her high school basketball team. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz in a performance in her high school. Latifah was part of the Ladies Fresh, a rap collective that started her career in beatboxing. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit in its original form, which consisted of a group of MCs and DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the45King) recorded a demo of Queen Latifah rap Princess of the Posse. He gave the recording to host Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the song, and then signed Latifah in 1988 for the release of her debut track Wrath of My Madness.
