Nancy Wilson, a jazz performer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. was employed for a lengthy period as a housekeeper. Nancy is the youngest out of 6 siblings. Nancy was heavily influenced by her father's music taste as well as the music played at her family home. When she was just four years old, she realized she would be a singer. The talent she developed was cultivated due to her participation in the church choir. At the age of 16 when she started appearing often in Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when she was crowned the winner of the TV talent show. The same year, Nancy began working at night clubs. Nancy was 17 when she had graduated high school, and then matriculated in Ohio Central State College (now Central State University) for one year, before deciding to sing. In 1956 she released her debut album in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band with who she performed on tour between 1956 between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made while she was in the big band of the Carolyn Club. Cannonball adderley advised her to move into New York in order to increase her fame. She visited The Big Town, New York in 1959. She was hired to perform in The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx, where Adderley's agent had seen her. In 1960, she was signed to Capitol Records. That same year she issued her first single. Guess who I saw today. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's direction, she began to focus on R&B however she soon switched to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped bring her to the forefront and her smash hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. This brought her a gig at New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she became a star.
