Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on 20 February 1937 to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who had worked for a long time as housekeeper. Nancy was the eldest of six children. Nancy was heavily influenced by her father's musical tastes and the records that were played in her family home. By the age of four, Nancy was aware that she wanted to be a musician. She discovered her talent for music through singing in choirs at church. At the age of 16, she began to appear often on Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when she was crowned the winner of the TV talent show. The singer began performing in nightclubs at the same age. Nancy graduated high school aged 17 and enrolled in Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a full year. She then dropped out to pursue a job as a professional musician. Her debut album was released in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group performed with her throughout 1956 and 1957. Nancy made her debut album via Dot Records during the time she spent in this band. Cannonball Adderley told her that she needed to relocate to New York to further her career and she went there to The Big Town to begin her career in the year 1959. The agent of Adderley heard about her in The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. within a month of her arrival in New York City. It was a contract by Capitol Records in 1960. The year was 1960 when she made her debut with. Guess who? Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. The first was focused on R&B and then, with Adderley's influence, she embraced jazz. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley together with their 1962 group led her to the top of the charts. Her breakthrough smash Tell Me the Truth by 1963. Following that year the release, she was being booked at the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
